Must See

Castles of Augustusburg and Falkenlust

In Brühl, a small town in the Rhineland, art is abundant in architecture, sculpture, painting and luscious garden design. A fine example of a German rococo ensemble, Augustusburg Palace and Falkenlust hunting lodge, along with their baroque gardens, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage list with its masterful landscapes and historical buildings.

Cologne Cathedral

Seen from nearly every point in the beautiful city of Cologne, this magnificent example of Gothic architecture was started in 1248 and took centuries of building, faithfully sticking to original plans, until its completion in 1880. Make sure you leave time to take in all its richness of history and works of art.

Town Hall and Roland Statue in Bremen

With more than 1,200 years of history, Bremen’s town hall is one of the most beautiful in the country, a stunning example of the Weser Renaissance architecture typical of northern Germany. The accompanying Roland statue, known as the city's personal 'statue of liberty', stands proudly in the market square as the tallest free-standing sculpture of the German Middle Ages

Must Do

Oktoberfest

Although well-known for its festive Oktoberfest where everyone gets in the spirit of celebrating with beer and sausage (to name a few authentic simplicities to enjoy) over 16-18 days in October, there is more to see in Munich such as the Hofbräuhaus, a three-floor beer hall dating back to the 16th century. Now with a Bavarian restaurant, shows and upbeat vibe, the brewery's history includes being a royal brewery in the Kingdom of Bavaria.

Get in a Car and Drive

Travel the Romantic Road in Bavaria and pass through historic, storybook-like towns that will have you feeling like you’re in a real-life fairtytale. Across Bavaria there are medieval towns and villages worth exploring for its architecture, history and, of course, castles. Don’t miss stopping for a taste of German wine at one of the many famous vineyards in Bavaria.

Travel through on the Danube

See Germany by river cruise. A Danube cruise will give you a taste of Germany’s highlights. Excursions can include hiking the hillside to visit a famous castle in Würzburg, the Marienberg Fortress, built in the 1200s complete with mighty walls, draw bridges and stables for horses. From the castle’s garden, there’s yet another perfect German view to take in.

When To Go

Winter can be relatively cold in Germany with summer months boasting the finest weather; however, in winter months, many prefer travelling to Germany for its Christmas markets.
